ALLURE WINTER HOLIDAY BEAUTY BOX - Nov 19th @ 12:01PM EST (IMPORTANT / HELPFUL TIPS)

GET READY! On November 19th at 12:01PM EST the ALLURE WINTER HOLIDAY BEAUTY BOX will go on sale!

You will receive over $300 worth of "WINTER HOLIDAY ESSENTIAL" beauty products for the low cost of only $39.99 with an additional $10 for shipping and handling. The total cost is $49.99 plus tax. Typically $5 of the purchase price goes towards a charity of their choosing. This year it is the "I AM THAT GIRL" foundation - "A global community, a support system, and a movement of girls (8-108) turning self-doubt into self-love". You can read more about the charity here.

I've always purchased the beauty boxes in the past (check out the 2012 Fall box here and here) and I am always surprised by all the great products included in them. Check out the 2013 Summer Beauty Box here. Check out their 2013 Fall beauty box here. There is always something for everyone in them and there is plenty to share with others too.

*** PLEASE NOTE ***

Important / Helpful Tips
1. If you want to be alerted for when they go on sale again you can sign up to be a beauty enthusiast here. There is no cost to be a member and there are a lot of great opportunities to receive free samples or deals on many new and old beauty products. I would recommend signing up now so the day of the event all you will have to do is log-in and wait for the link to become active.

2. The link when it becomes active will be an image similar to the above pic. You must click on the image and it will take you to the order form. Fill out the order form as quickly as possible and be sure to have your credit card ready as well.

3. In the past people have experienced dead links, or unable to load page, or any other issue with the Beauty Box link that Allure posted on their Allure.com webpage then please use this link: AllureAccess.com. It is a direct link that allows you to purchase the Beauty Boxes or any other products, contests, etc. that are sponsored by Allure.

4. I'm not sure if this is true for all but according to others who commented on Allure's Facebook page in the past if you used a web browser other than Firefox you may experience difficulties accessing the site. Personally I have always been able to access it just fine but then again I use Firefox as my web browser.

I'll be sure to update this post with the direct link for the 2013 Allure Winter Holiday Beauty Box once it has become active. The link for the beauty boxes will be active until all quantities have been sold. So when the sale first starts you may experience some slow down with the web page but it quickly passes. However, if the link quits working or fails to load then you know the beauty boxes are sold out. In the past it has taken 24-48 hours to sell out but the Summer Beauty Box took less than 10 minute and the Fall Beauty Box sold out in less than five. So you might want to jump on this ASAP.

SUMMER READS - WHAT I'M CURRENTLY READING...

School is almost out for my kids so we start making plans for mini vacations throughout the summer months. With family in Michigan, West Virginia, Philadelphia, South Carolina and Georgia we have to create a game plan so the kids can visit everybody and spend quality time with them too. So that makes for a lot of road trips!

One thing I love to bring with me on road trips are books. Books have the ability to make the time fly by extremely fast and they can be very entertaining. I start planning and making a list of the books that I would like to read or books that others have recommended for me. Some of my favorite types of books are the paranormal romance that delve into the psychic abilities of people, lighthearted comedy fiction that keeps you laughing, and murder mysteries that really make you think. Although on occasion I have been know to enjoy books from the gore-fest genre as well.

So far here are three authors on my list that were either recommended to me by someone else or I had read another of the authors' books previously and wanted to read more.

I love watching the Bravo reality show "Bethenny Ever After". The main character, Bethenny Frankel, doesn't hesitate to say what she feels and she tells you what she thinks regardless of others' feelings. She originally appeared in a few TV and film roles until she appeared in her breakout role on the realty TV show RHONY. From there her popularity exploded....

Bethany has written several books but Skinnydipping is her first foray into the world of fiction. I don't know much about this book but I thought it would be fun to read.

SKINNYDIPPING - by Bethenny Frankel (Published May 1, 2012)

According to Amazon:
“Who do I have to sleep with to get a drink on this plane?”

Beloved by countless fans for being devilishly dishy, outrageously funny, and always giving it to us straight, three-time New York Times bestselling author Bethenny Frankel now makes her fiction debut with the story of Faith Brightstone. Faith is an aspiring actress just out of college, who moves to L.A. determined to have it all—a job on the most popular TV show, a beach house in Malibu, and a gorgeous producer boyfriend. But when reality hits, she finds herself with a gig as a glorified servant, a role that has more to do with T&A than acting, and a dead-end relationship. Finally, Faith decides she’s had enough of La La Land and moves back to New York with just a suitcase and her dog, Muffin.

Five years later, Faith has finally found her groove as an entrepreneur and manages to land a spot on a new reality TV show hosted by her idol—the legendary businesswoman and domestic goddess Sybil Hunter. Diving into the bizarre world of reality TV, Faith’s loud mouth and tell-it-like-it-is style immediately get her in trouble with her fellow contestants—the delusional socialite; the boozy lifestyle coach; the moody headband designer; and her closest friend, the ambitious housewife who eventually betrays her. Even Sybil is not what she appears. As the show comes to a dramatic close, Faith discovers that the man of her dreams may have just walked into her life. Will she choose fame or love? Or can she have it all?

Sophie Kinsella has written numerous books and she is a wildly popular author. One of her claims to fame is her Shopaholic series; although I never really could get interested in them. However the first book that I ever read of hers was called "Can You Keep a Secret?". It had me laughing from start to finish and I really didn't want it to end. Keep in mind it isn't a serious novel but just a lighthearted, fun read for a rainy day or a quiet night spent at home.

It was with much joy and pleasure when I saw that she had published a new book called "I've Got Your Number".

I'VE GOT YOUR NUMBER - by Sophie Kinsella (Published February 14, 2012)

According to Amazon:
I’ve lost it. :( The only thing in the world I wasn’t supposed to lose. My engagement ring. It’s been in Magnus’s family for three generations. And now the very same day his parents are coming, I’ve lost it. The very same day! Do not hyperventilate, Poppy. Stay positive :) !!

Poppy Wyatt has never felt luckier. She is about to marry her ideal man, Magnus Tavish, but in one afternoon her “happily ever after” begins to fall apart. Not only has she lost her engagement ring in a hotel fire drill but in the panic that follows, her phone is stolen. As she paces shakily around the lobby, she spots an abandoned phone in a trash can. Finders keepers! Now she can leave a number for the hotel to contact her when they find her ring. Perfect!

Well, perfect except that the phone’s owner, businessman Sam Roxton, doesn’t agree. He wants his phone back and doesn’t appreciate Poppy reading his messages and wading into his personal life.

What ensues is a hilarious and unpredictable turn of events as Poppy and Sam increasingly upend each other’s lives through emails and text messages. As Poppy juggles wedding preparations, mysterious phone calls, and hiding her left hand from Magnus and his parents . . . she soon realizes that she is in for the biggest surprise of her life.

This next set of books are by the author Janet Evanovich and they were recommended to me by a young lady named Nicole, or @glamcandy2 as she is known on twitter. I had mentioned that I bought the movie "One for the Money" and she told me that it was based off the Stephanie Plum series by this author. The movie looked promising so I definitely wanted to check out the books then too. Also, when I went to purchase the first book there was a bundle deal on the first three books in the series so I bought them all. There are currently eighteen novels in this series so far. Whew, now that's a lot of books to read!

Here is what Amazon had to say:

STEPHANIE PLUM SERIES - by Janet Evanovich (Published June 19, 2007)
One for the Money
ONE FINE MESS

Welcome to Trenton, New Jersey, home to wiseguys, average Joes, and Stephanie Plum, who sports a big attitude and even bigger money problems (since losing her job as a lingerie buyer for a department store). Stephanie needs cash-fast-but times are tough, and soon she's forced to turn to the last resort of the truly desperate: family...

ONE FALSE MOVE

Stephanie lands a gig at her sleazy cousin Vinnie's bail bonding company. She's got no experience. But that doesn't matter. As does the fact that the bail jumper in question is local vice cop Joe Morelli. From the time he first looked up her dress to the time he first got into her pants, to the time Steph hit him with her father's Buick, M-o-r-e-l-l-i has spelled t-r-o-u-b-l-e. And now the hot guy is in hot water-wanted for murder...

ONE FOR THE MONEY

Abject poverty is a great motivator for learning new skills, but being trained in the school of hard knocks by people like psycho prizefighter Benito Ramirez isn't. Still, if Stephanie can nab Morelli in a week, she'll make a cool ten grand. All she has to do is become an expert bounty hunter overnight-and keep herself from getting killed before she gets her man...

Two For The Dough

Bounty hunter Stephanie Plum is still learning the ropes at her cousin Vinnie’s bail bond office, so when she sets out on the trail of Kenny Mancuso—a suspiciously wealthy, working class Trenton boy who has just shot his best friend—the stakes are higher than ever. That Mancuso is distantly related to vice cop Joe Morelli—who is trying to beat Stephanie to the punch—only makes the hunt more thrilling…. Taking pointers from her bounty hunter pal, Ranger, and using her pistol-packing Granda Mazur as a decoy, Stephanie is soon closing in on her mark. But Morelli and his libido are worthy foes. And a more sinister kind of enemy has made his first move…and his next move might be Stephanie’s last.

Three to Get Ready

A "saintly" old candy-store owner is on the lam-and bounty hunter extraordinaire Stephanie Plum is on the case. As the body count rises, Stephanie finds herself dealing with dead drug dealers and slippery fugitives on the chase of her life. And with the help of eccentric friends and family, Steph must see to it that this case doesn't end up being her last...

STORAGE: Tabletop Spinning Cosmetic Organizer

The Tabletop Spinning Cosmetic Organizer is a Make-up lover's dream and although the Organizer takes up quite a bit of room (see the measurements below) the varying sizes of the compartments make storing makeup an easy and effortless feat. I store my face cleansers, foundations, eyeshadows, blushes, pigments, and more with plenty of room still available! This Organizer is truly a time-saver. I LOVE it ♥ and I can honestly say this is one of my favorite storage organizers. Now I do have a couple of other storage organizers that I love and consider to be "Must Have" status as well, but I'll post those later.

For those who want to purchase it, I bought mine from the QVC website here. It currently retails for $27.50 plus $7.47 S/H. When I purchased mine I believe I paid about $40-$50 and that was a little over two years ago so this is certainly an excellent price.

Tips:
Make sure the Organizer rests on a smooth and solid surface otherwise it will hinder the turning of the Organizer. When cleaning the Organizer, soap and water will do the trick. Also be sure that your makeup is closed securely because it can make quite a mess! Ha Ha...and yes, I'm speaking from personal experience too!

Go from plain-faced to absolutely fantastic in mere minutes. Because it's easier and faster to put your makeup on when it's neatly organized. This tabletop organizer holds over 100 pieces of your everyday beauty essentials, arranging them in specially designed compartments for ultimate efficiency. What's more, it spins so you can access your skin care, colored cosmetics, or other grooming supplies. From Lori Greiner.
  • Plastic
  • Measures approximately 10"H x 11"L x 11"W
  • Made in China
Don't forget! For those that like to save even more, sign up for an Ebates account here and at this time you will earn 2.5% cash back on all of your QVC purchases. Like the program so much that you want to refer your friends. Then you will earn an additional $5 for every referral. So basically you are getting paid to shop!

Gilt Groupe is an online shopping website that offers members instant access to exclusive designer labels. The merchandise, such as clothing, handbags, home furnishings, jewelry, food, travel, etc., is offered at up to 60% off retail. They were even featured on ABC's early morning TV show, Good Morning America; now how cool is that!

SEPHORA: Friends & Family 20% sale

Yesterday was not a good day for Sephora and here is why. Typically Sephora offers their Friends and Family 20% discount sale to everyone and you are allowed to use it for multiple purchases. However, this time the 20% is only offered by entering your e-mail address here. People, and by people I am including myself, are not happy about this. The code is only good for online orders and you can only use it one time and that is all. If you have more than one e-mail address you can sign up a total of five times for the special promo code. Seriously though, who wants to go through all that. Just give me my code and let me use it multiple times or even place an order limit on it. Geesh! Maybe Sephora will offer a special in-store promo, but for right now, people are not happy.

Sales starts today, October 20th and last until November 2nd.

Don't forget! For those that like to save even more, sign up for an Ebates account here and at this time you will earn 4% cash back on all of your Sephora purchases. Like the program so much that you want to refer your friends then you will earn an additional $5 for every referral. So basically you are getting paid to shop!

That is such a SWEET♥ deal!

SEPHORA 2011 FRIENDS & FAMILY: Wishlists and Survival Skills

So the word on Twitter is that Sephora is having their "Friends and Family Sale" starting Thursday, October 20th and it will last until November 2nd. Typically Sephora offers 20% off everything in store and on their website with little to no exclusions. If you've never shopped a Sephora Friends and Family sale before, then you really should keep reading...

Start by visiting your local Sephora store and make a list of the products that you know you want to buy. Then check the Sephora website for those web-only exclusives that might garner you a better deal than those found in the stores. Next, scour the web for reviews, swatches, videos, etc., for any of the products that you have on your list that you are wanting to try for the first time. It saves you time and heartache when you know ahead of time if the product is any good. But keep in mind that although it didn't work for one person someone else may have had more success with it.

Check to see if there are any combo sets or value sets that include any of the products that are on your list. This is a good way to try out a variety of products from the same brand without having to spend a lot of money. Another thing to remember is the more popular a product is, then it will likely sell out within the first day or so of the sale. So if there are any of those items on your list make sure that you purchase them immediately otherwise you might not get them.

Some of the items that I have on my wishlist include foundation primer, some nail polishes, a few makeup brushes, a couple of blushes, two highlight powders, and a couple of gift sets for my sisters. I might even try some Bobbi Brown products as well. I really like that brand but I find it to be a little more expensive than what I want to spend so this might be the perfect opportunity for me to pick up some of her products. One thing to keep in mind is that Sephora has an excellent return policy. So if you get caught up in the excitement and then later you have buyer's remorse, it is very easy to return the products to your local Sephora store.

GET YOUR SHOP ON... ♥♥♥

WISHLISTS AND GIFTS: A GUIDE TO SURVIVING THE HOLIDAYS

September is almost gone and all the big holidays will be here before you know it. If you blink you might miss them cause this year has flown by. I'm still in shock that this year is coming so quickly to a close. For me, this is the time of year that I kick it into overdrive. I start making little mini wishlists of stuff I would want as gifts or might buy if I can catch a break and find the items on sale. I do this for everyone in my family. I find that it helps me to keep track of the really important stuff that each of them might want. So each month up until Christmas I'm going to "TRY" and post weekly / monthly updates.

So here are some tips on how to make the holidays not so stressful:

Start a special savings account for gifts. I start small with $10 to $20 weekly deposits and then depending on the balance at mid-year, I might kick-it up a notch and start putting more money in there if I see that I might come up short. This helps to lessen the burden during the holidays when you should be able to relax and enjoy quality time with friends and family. Also, don't panic if an emergency crops up and you have to dip into the fund, which never fails to happen to me at least once or twice through-out the year. That is why you start early so you have a good bit of money built up and if the unthinkable happens you will have time to replenish it.

Another option, and I'm not saying to do this all the time, is most 401K plans allow you to take a loan out on the money that you have put in there. Depending on the type of 401K account that you have, if there is at least $2,000 or more in the account you can borrow up to half of that balance. The good thing about this option is that you are borrowing your own money and any interest on the loan gets paid back to yourself rather than a bank if you were to take out a bank loan. Also, there might be a one-time processing fee, but most fees are small and will be deducted from the loan amount.

Start shopping early, and don't wait for the Black Friday sales. Especially if you have small children from about the ages of 3 to 11. When my boys were younger it was so much easier to buy for them. I knew that my oldest loved Lego sets so I would watch for the clearance shelves around June and July because that is when most stores start to clearance items to make room for the pending holidays. I was able to find the big, expensive Lego sets for 50-75% cheaper than the original price. Also, I didn't shop the after Christmas sales either because majority of the items are still way over priced. I waited until the end of January and early February to shop because all of those big expensive, over-priced, must-have toys that all the kids wanted are now way less.

With my youngest son, when he was smaller, he loved action figures, cars and trucks. For him, it wasn't so much a matter of finding stuff on clearance, but finding the items that he wanted early enough before they sold out. I started shopping for him around August and September. Both of these months are the ideal months to shop for those types of toys. Why, you might ask, are those prime shopping months. Because children are going back to school and parents are spending money on school supplies, college tuition, school clothes, etc. Think about it; parents are spending money on all of these items except toys. If you have ever visited the toy section during this time-frame you will find the aisles virtually empty of shoppers. So take advantage of this prime shopping  time and stock up.

For the much older kids, this means the late preteens and teenage years of 12-19 years old, children are easier to buy stuff for but way more expensive. Think iPods, iPads, video games, music cds, movies, clothes, etc. just to name a few and that is just for starters. My children are at this age now and I find that a budget is a must-have when it comes to buying for them. If you don't have a budget you can very easily sink yourself into some serious debt. Also, if your family has been hit hard financially due to the poor economy, share this with your children. Children, especially teenagers, know when their parents are stressed and for the good of everyone in the family, it helps to have an open and honest discussion about finances. Not only does it prepare the children for the realities of life and the uncertainty it can hold, but it will also help them to better understand why they can't have every new video game that comes out. Teenagers appreciate honesty and being treated as more than just a kid. As my children have gotten older, I find that my relationship with my children has improved greatly by following these simple steps. We've learned to work more as a team and to think of others rather than being so focused on ourselves all the time. However, it is good to still spoil them or splurge on them every once in a while.**Please note: It is my opinion only, that the sharing of your family's financial situation, be shared with the older children only and not the much younger ones. However, it is entirely up to you how you handle these types of situations.

I have my children make lists of stuff they want and then rank them according to importance. Starting with the "must-have", "gonna die if I don't get it items" to the "it would be nice to have, but if I don't get it I will still survive" type of stuff. Now I don't try and get everything on their list but I do try to get one or two of the "must-have" items as long as they aren't too expensive. Here again, it is good to keep the lines of communication open and be honest if you can't afford some of the stuff. Another option to consider, is if you have other family members that buy gifts for your children, ask them about pooling resources so you can buy the more expensive gifts together. This way the burden is not on any one individual. Also, if you have a big extended family like we do, to cut done on some of the expense around the holidays, we only buy gifts for the children. The only exception to this rule are the grandparents and single relatives. Reason being, is because grandparents are special and have done so much for us that we want them to know how much we really appreciate them and all the sacrifices that they made for us when we were kids. Single relatives, because the majority of them don't have children and if they don't have a significant other around the holidays, it can be a lonely time of the year for them. It is good to make them feel special as well. After all, they usually buy gifts for your children on their birthdays and holidays so it is especially nice to repay their generosity.

A good place to shop for video games and electronic items is the internet. Every year, I use PriceGrabber, an online price comparison search engine. It looks for the items and lists the stores / websites that have the item(s) and how much it costs. Amazon is another web based store that I shop at frequently. Especially around the holidays because they run special promos and discounts that brick and mortar stores can't match. Another store to shop at throughout the year is Toys-R-Us, especially their online store, right up until Black Friday. The two weeks prior to Black Friday, you will find incredible deals. Such as buy 2 video games and get 1 free for all video game systems. They run these incredible deals to help clear out their current inventory of video games to make room for all of the new releases that will be launched right before Christmas. Another thing I have learned is all the new video game releases that are launched right before Christmas and are priced at $60 and up will drop drastically in price if you wait a few weeks after the holidays. Trust me, I know! Nothing is more depressing than seeing a video game you just spent $60 on when it first released and it is now on sale for half that price after Christmas. For those types of games, cash gifts go a long way. Then you can find out how badly your child really wanted that "must-have" video game when they have to pay for it with their Christmas money. LOL. **This is one area that I will definitely be posting additional blog updates so keep checking back for more!

Get your children, friends, and other family members involved in the whole gift hunting / buying process. Even though I live two states away from my family, they are my go-to source when I am trying to find hard to get items. I enlist the help of my co-workers even. It is like a huge scavenger hunt and it is actually quite a lot of fun. We all share are lists and try to help each other out as much as possible.

Anyway, these are just some basic guidelines to help you survive the holidays without going into debt. Whether or not they work for you is all up to how organized you are and how much time you really want to invest in the whole shopping experience. For me, this works, and I find that my kids have a really great time during the holidays which is worth it. Like I said before, I will try to post additional tips and strategies throughout the year so keep checking back or subscribe so you don't miss out on anything!

JEWELMINT: LOVE THAT BINDS BRACELET

Show off your love for fashion with this rose gold wrist adornment. A modern take on the sign language gesture for lover, this mesh bracelet features an O-ring and two hand shaped buckles. Our 7 ¼” piece fastens with a box clasp for a seamless look. Slip on this bracelet as a symbol of your everlasting affection for all things chic.

This rose gold "Love That Binds" bracelet has been on my wishlist for quite some time. I love the classic look and feel of the bracelet and to me it just screams elegance. Well, I had already purchased my JewelMint selection for the month of August but I really loved this bracelet. So much so that I went ahead and made another order for August. If you are not familiar with JewelMint and the whole process you can read my earlier post about it here. Or click on this referral link to sign up right now.

Anyway, I purchased the bracelet at the end of August. I know, I know, I could have used it as my September purchase but I really wanted it and I'm not a very patient person either! Ha Ha! Seeing as how I already had my heart set on this piece, I placed the order later that evening after making sure it was still in stock. However, silly me, forgot about having to go out of town the week that the bracelet was suppose to ship and deliver. So I asked a neighbor to keep an eye out for the package. The end of my trip couldn't get here fast enough. I was so excited to try it on. It felt like it was my birthday or Christmas!

Oh my, the bracelet was so gorgeous. It was everything that I imagined except for it being broken and to small. LOL. I have to laugh because I was so over the moon about this bracelet and here it is and I can't even wear it. Oh, how disappointing! I was utterly heartbroken. What was I going to do? Will they accept returns? Can I even return it?

The next day I contacted Customer Service at JewelMint and explained my situation. The Customer Service Rep. that I spoke with was extremely friendly and very helpful. She explained that all original packaging had to be returned along with the broken bracelet. I could choose to receive a replacement bracelet or they would issue a credit to my account once they had received the bracelet back. Oh, and you mustn't have worn the jewelry either; which I hadn't, so no problems there. I opted for the later, and asked for my account to be credited seeing as how the bracelet was too small anyway, which I'm still a little disappointed about.

Even though this purchase didn't turn out the way that I expected it too, I consider it to be a success and I will continue to recommend JewelMint to both my friends and family. I would love to hear from any of you that have ordered from JewelMint and how your experience was with them. Did you have any problems? Did you receive the same excellent Customer service that I did with my purchase? Please share your story with us.

Check back later when I post my September JewelMint purchase. Is it going to be a ring this time, or another necklace, or maybe a bracelet??? I guess you will have to wait and see.....

THE CHEESECAKE FACTORY: “SkinnyLicious™” menu

I love eating at the Cheesecake Factory. The delicious meals and the decadent desserts make the visit such a pleasurable and scrumptious experience. So I was extremely happy to find out that The CheeseCake Factory, starting August 9th and at all location nation-wide by September 9th, will start to offer a new “SkinnyLicious™” menu.

The new “SkinnyLicious™” menu will have almost 50 different delectable items that you can select from and will offer those of us who are calories conscious, a wide variety of menu options that are only 590 calories. Some of the wonderful meal selections to be offered are the SkinnyLicious™ Hamburgers (including a succulent Veggie Burger), Tuscan Chicken and SkinnyLicious™ Herb Crusted Salmon and that is just the beginning.

The Charlotte location will roll out the new menu options starting September 9th. I'm super excited to try the more healthier dishes and I will post a follow up review when that time comes. Be sure to click on your state here to see when the SkinnyLicious™ menu will be at your favorite location.

Let me know, by posting a comment below, if you've already had a chance to try any of the healthier dishes and which was your favorite "must have" dish that others should try as well.

I first joined StyleMint in the month of July. I went through the steps for my personal profile evaluation and was really excited to see what the four shirts were going to look like. Typically, each of the shirts vary in style and design and come in various colors. I had seen previews and promo pics of some of the shirts and I already had my eye on one of them. I couldn't wait to get a better look at everything. Much to my surprise the t-shirts were so popular several sold out rather quickly including the t-shirt that I had wanted. Well, I didn't like anything else so I decided to wait for the August t-shirts and this is the one that I selected - the Michigan T.

Final thoughts:
While it is a nice looking shirt, it was rather larger than what I had thought it was going to be and the quality was a little lackluster. I can definitely see myself wearing this layered over a tank or maybe another shirt but I wouldn't wear it alone seeing as how thin the material was. It almost appeared to be somewhat sheer.

HAPPY EASTER EVERYBODY ♥

I hope everybody had a wonderful Easter and was able to share this day with their loved ones. My thoughts and prayers go out to you all on this most joyous occasion.

On a more personal note:
While my children are a little old for the traditional Easter egg hunt they still enjoy getting candy and this year was no different. Nestle crunch, Snickers, Skittles, Reese cups, etc, (you get the idea) were overflowing in their Easter baskets and the end of Spring Break was foremost in their minds. So to help ease the transition back to getting up early in the mornings for school (as opposed to the all-nighters they had over Spring break) I decided to cook them one of their favorite meals. Also, given the holiday celebration I felt it entirely appropriate to cook something special.
Here are some pictures of our meal:

I cooked the ham with potatoes, onions, and carrots and served dinner rolls to complete everything. This dish is extremely easy to make, it is very healthy, and it took no time to cook.
  1. First you line the bottom of your pan with tinfoil, This helps hold in the juices better for the potatoes, onions and carrots plus it makes clean up so much easier. Also, go ahead and preheat the oven at 325 degrees.
  2. Next you place the ham (I used an uncooked butt ham) flat side upright and add 1 cup of water to the pan. Tightly cover the top of the pan with tinfoil, put the lid on the pot, and then place it in the oven for an hour. Be sure to use a meat thermometer so you know that is reaches the proper temperature and will be safe to eat when it finishes cooking.
  3. While the ham is cooking you will need to wash and cut up the potatoes and onions into cubes or chunks. It all depends on how big you prefer the portion sizes.
  4. After the ham has cooked for an hour take it out of the oven. This next part is kinda tricky and the potential to get burned is great (trust me...I burned my arm doing this next step). Uncover the pan and flip the ham so that its flat side is now on the bottom.
  5. Now place a few (about a 1/4 of the amount you are going to cook) of the potatoes around the ham and then add the carrots (however many you want to eat) and finally add the remaining potatoes and onions making sure they cover the carrots completely. This helps to ensure the carrots are cooked all the way through and will be soft. You will need to add an additional 2 cups of water to the pan too.
  6. The seasonings are optional and really up to the individual. I like to make my meals as healthy as possible so I used a little bit of butter buds, a pinch of sea salt, and a dash of Mrs Dash Garlic seasonings on everything except the ham.
  7. Be sure to cover everything and cook for an additional 2 1/2 hours.
  8. Once the food has finished cooking uncover the pan and let it sit for 15 minutes. During this time you can add a glaze to the ham. I added honey to mine and it was D-E-L-I-S-H!
Hope you enjoyed this recipe and be sure to subscribe to my blog for future posts!
